Dr Neeraj Sareen
Consultant Psychiatrist/ Co-Founder
Dr Neeraj Sareen

Dr Sareen is a Consultant Psychiatrist, a Fellow of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Psychiatrists (RANZCP), and a Member of the Royal College of Psychiatrists (UK).

Dr Sareen has over 19 years of experience delivering high-quality clinical care to his patients. He is passionate about providing timely, accessible mental health treatment. Trained in the United Kingdom, he gained expertise across a variety of psychiatry subspecialties. He completed his training as an Adult Psychiatrist and obtained an Advanced Training Certificate in Aged Psychiatry.

Dr Sareen moved to Australia in 2012 and has since dedicated his efforts to improving the quality of mental health care services across South-East Melbourne.

Previously, Dr Sareen served as the Head of Community Psychiatry for Alfred Addiction and Mental Health. He was also the Unit Head of Adult Mental Health Services at Casey Hospital from 2017 to 2020.

He considers himself a clinician who walks alongside his patients on their journey to recovery. Dr Sareen works collaboratively with patients and their family networks to achieve the outcomes that matter most to them. His passion for clinical leadership, compassionate care, and a holistic approach extends not only to the patients he treats directly but also to the clinical services he leads.

Dr Bharat Saluja

Dr Bharat Saluja

Dr Bharat Saluja is an experienced Senior Consultant Psychiatrist with a passion for providing excellent care to his patients. He is an empathetic doctor who takes pride in delivering recovery-oriented and evidence-based care across both public and private practice.

He is the Unit Head for the Young Persons Mental Health Service and Acute Inpatient Unit at Monash Health, and an Adjunct Senior Lecturer at Monash University. He has received several academic and clinical excellence awards in recognition of his contributions to psychiatry.

Over the last 20 years, Dr Saluja has worked as a Consultant Psychiatrist in Australia, Singapore, the United Kingdom, and India. He has extensive experience working with people from diverse cultural and ethnic backgrounds across a wide range of settings, including community mental health, inpatient services, teaching hospitals, rural health services, and forensic psychiatry.

In addition to his clinical and academic roles, Dr Saluja is an active researcher with over 50 publications in peer-reviewed journals. He combines his knowledge, experience, and clinical expertise to work collaboratively with patients and their families, helping them achieve the best possible outcomes.

Dr Saluja has devoted his career to serving the community, advancing psychiatric education, and fostering meaningful therapeutic relationships. He supports people who are struggling with distressing thoughts and emotions by providing compassionate guidance and evidence-based treatment throughout their recovery journey.

Dr Umesh Babu
Consultant Psychiatrist
Dr Umesh Babu

Dr Umesh Babu is trained in Psychiatry with sub-specialty experience in Developmental Psychiatry and Neuropsychiatry. His initial training was at the National Institute of Mental Health and Neurosciences (NIMHANS), a centre of excellence in mind and brain sciences in India. He has been a Fellow of the Royal Australian & New Zealand College of Psychiatrists (RANZCP) since 2002 and has worked in senior consultant positions in teaching hospitals for the past two decades.

Dr Babu’s supportive and collaborative approach to assessment and treatment involves the person, their family, and caregivers in developing a shared understanding of the presenting health problem and creating a tailored treatment plan.

Apart from managing general adult psychiatry conditions, Dr Babu has a particular interest in psychiatric conditions associated with organic brain disorders presenting with symptoms of psychosis, depression, and anxiety, which are often resistant to standard treatment. He has extensive experience in assessing and managing neuropsychiatric conditions in young people, adults, and older adults.

His expertise includes the assessment and management of emotional, behavioural, and cognitive disturbances associated with neurological and other medical conditions, including:

  • Traumatic brain injury
  • Stroke
  • Epilepsy
  • Normal Pressure Hydrocephalus (NPH)
  • Parkinson’s disease
  • Huntington’s disease
  • Young-onset dementia
  • Non-epileptic seizure disorders
  • Movement disorders

Dr Babu also has extensive experience managing intellectual disability, autism, and other neurodevelopmental conditions that begin in childhood and continue to impact behaviour, emotional wellbeing, and social functioning throughout adulthood. Adults experiencing these challenges benefit from the expertise he developed during his years as Senior Staff on the Disability Assessment Services at St George’s Hospital, Sydney, where he applied his neuropsychiatric expertise to managing complex neurodevelopmental conditions, including autism and intellectual disability.

He has a special interest in managing adults with ADHD and co-existing anxiety, obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD), Tourette’s syndrome, and tic disorders.

Before relocating to Melbourne in 2018, Dr Babu served as Senior Staff Specialist in Neuropsychiatry Services at Newcastle, NSW, for 12 years. He was also a founding member of the Neuropsychiatry Advanced Training Program at the service. This unique and highly specialised clinical service was awarded Clinical Team of the Year in the Hunter and New England Health District.

Dr Abhi Mathew

Dr Abhi Mathew

Dr Mathew is a consultant psychiatrist at The Melbourne Psychiatry Centre. He has extensive experience in psychiatry and general medicine within the Australian public health system over the last 20 years. Having worked across multiple services and settings, Dr Mathew is passionate about delivering high-quality, sophisticated, and evidence-informed treatment for his clients and their care teams.

Dr Mathew is trained as a general psychiatrist with extensive experience in addiction psychiatry, transcultural psychiatry, neurodevelopmental psychiatry, emergency and acute psychiatry, and community psychiatry.

Dr Mathew also works in public health as a youth and adolescent psychiatrist, with a special focus on early intervention and research, and a strong commitment to promoting positive health outcomes in the general population.

Dr Deepak Tokas

Dr Deepak Tokas

Dr Deepak Tokas is a consultant psychiatrist at The Melbourne Psychiatry Centre with over 20 years’ clinical experience across diverse settings. With a thoughtful and patient-centred approach, Dr. Tokas is dedicated to providing compassionate, evidence-based care tailored to each individual’s unique mental health journey.

Having completed advanced training in forensic psychiatry in London, he is also a proud member of MRCPsych (UK) and FRANZCP (Australia & New Zealand).

Deepak takes a patient-centred, recovery-focused approach, tailoring care to each person’s circumstances and goals. He offers comprehensive psychiatric assessment, diagnosis, and evidence-based medication management, prioritising clear explanation of options and shared decision-making. Where appropriate, he coordinates ongoing care with GPs, psychologists and allied health professionals to deliver practical, long-term treatment plans.

Hugo Fernandez

Hugo Fernandez

Hugo is a registered psychologist working at The Melbourne Psychiatry Centre. He has over 15 years of experience in mental health, having worked across both public and private settings in Australia and internationally.

He provides compassionate, evidence-based care tailored to each individual’s needs, with a particular focus on:

  • Anxiety Disorders – Generalised Anxiety, Social Anxiety, and stress management
  • ADHD – Psychoeducation, organisation strategies, and attention management
  • Perinatal Mental Health – Supporting new and expectant parents with postnatal anxiety, depression, and adjustment challenges
  • Adjustment & Life Transitions – Helping individuals navigate change and build resilience

Hugo takes a practical, strengths-based approach, integrating cognitive-behavioural strategies with trauma-informed care. He understands that seeking support can feel overwhelming, so he strives to create a warm and collaborative space where clients feel truly heard.

Fluent in both English and Spanish, Hugo also offers culturally responsive services for Spanish-speaking clients, ensuring that language and cultural background are never barriers to effective care.

Beyond his clinical work, Hugo has extensive experience in crisis support, including providing mental health assistance during natural disasters in Chile and working on Australia-wide suicide prevention support during the COVID-19 pandemic. These experiences have deepened his ability to support clients through distress and uncertainty with empathy and expertise.

Hugo is currently accepting new referrals and welcomes the opportunity to support individuals on their mental health journey.

Seema Dua
Clinical Nurse Consultant
Seema Dua

Seema works as a Clinical Nurse Consultant at The Melbourne Psychiatry Centre. She is an experienced Mental Health Nurse with over 17 years of clinical experience in public mental health. She has worked across acute, community, and specialist services, including drug and alcohol settings. She brings advanced expertise in comprehensive mental health assessment, formulation, risk assessment and management, crisis intervention, psychopharmacology, therapeutic engagement, and recovery-oriented care.

Seema is committed to delivering evidence-based, patient-centred care that promotes safety, dignity, recovery, and positive outcomes for consumers and their families. Seema holds a Master of Nursing (Mental Health) from Monash University and demonstrates a strong commitment to ongoing professional development. She is currently undertaking a Master of Nurse Practitioner, specialising in Mental Health and Addiction Medicine, and is passionate about advancing mental health care through evidence-based practice, innovation, education, and continuous quality improvement.

Alongside her clinical expertise, Seema has established a strong academic foundation. She has contributed to the education of undergraduate and Masters students specialising in mental health at Monash University, contributed to several key research projects, and mentored undergraduate and graduate nurses within clinical settings.

In addition to her role at The MPC, she works as a Service Improvement Coordinator at Bayside Health, where she leads clinical governance, quality, and service improvement initiatives. Her current role includes reviewing clinical incidents, developing evidence-based case analyses, and contributing to policy development aimed at enhancing patient outcomes and promoting excellence in mental health care.

Outside of her professional life, Seema enjoys spending time with her family, is a keen cyclist, and loves running along the coastline, embracing the fresh scent of the sea — along with her morning coffee, of course.

Nisha Sharma
Psychologist
Nisha Sharma

Nisha is a Psychologist at The Melbourne Psychiatry Centre. She is a registered psychologist and member of the Australian Psychological Society (MAPS). Nisha holds a Masters of Professional Psychology, Masters of Science (Psychology) and Bachelors of Arts (Psychology).

She enjoys working collaboratively with people of all ages and strives to create a safe and non-judgmental therapeutic environment for her clients. She is empathetic and supportive of her clients, and works with them to overcome their difficulties. Nisha is culturally sensitive and identifies as a person of colour.

Nisha has experience working as counselling psychologist at a psychiatric hospital in India with presenting issues of depression, anxiety, schizophrenia, alcohol use disorder, oppositional defiant disorder, bipolar, personality disorders and everyday stress. In Australia, she has worked as an ABA therapist and worked to provide behaviour support to NDIS participants. She has experience working with children, adolescents, adults, older adults and families; with varied presentations including Autism Spectrum Disorder, ADHD, self esteem, trauma, and intellectual disabilities. Nisha is fluent in many languages including English, Hindi, Kannada, Rajasthani and can understand Punjabi, Gujarati and Telugu.

Nisha has growing interest in Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Exposure Therapy and Mindfulness Techniques along with developed skills and training necessary to conduct Cognitive assessments, Vocational assessments and Personality assessments.

Paul Golod

Paul is a registered psychologist at The Melbourne Psychiatry Centre. He has completed his postgraduate training and has since worked with a diverse range of clients, providing effective, evidence-based treatment across a variety of mental health concerns. With personal interests in popular culture, films, and video games, Paul aims to dispel the myth that therapy must be a dry experience by fostering an atmosphere that is professional, genuine, and engaging.

Paul supports clients with a range of presenting concerns, including anxiety, depression, and trauma. His therapeutic approach primarily draws from Cognitive Behavioural Therapy and psychodynamic principles, with a strong emphasis on a person-centred, collaborative process grounded in open communication and shared exploration.

In addition to therapy, Paul is experienced in psychometric assessment and is adept at administering cognitive, autism spectrum disorder (ASD), and attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) assessments across the lifespan, including with children, adolescents, and adults.

Always continuing his studies, Paul has a strong grasp of psychological theory, allowing him to integrate complex ideas into practical, evidence-based treatment. One of Paul’s key strengths is his ability to explain complex concepts in a clear and accessible way, helping clients better understand themselves and move toward their goals.

Arpita Saluja

Arpita is a registered provisional psychologist and supports clients through their mental health journey at The Melbourne Psychiatry Centre. She has 18 years of experience as a psychotherapist, and is a qualified Clinical Hypnotherapist and a Master Neuro Linguistic Program Practitioner, UK.

As a therapist, Arpita has extensive experience in working in various mental health areas across the life span such as, anxiety, phobia, PTSD, quit smoking, IBS, and pain. She provides counselling, psychological assessments, evidence-based treatments and has special interest in neurodivergent disorders and movement disorders.

Arpita has a keen interest and passion for mental health and mind-body connection and explores the interdisciplinary nature of human psychology, spirituality, and psychosocial behaviour. She collaborates with professionals from diverse fields to collectively understand and contribute to the development of effective therapy interventions which are evidence-based, humanistic and person-centeric.

Arpita is multi-lingual, highly motivated and a compassionate individual and continues to reinforce her commitment by gaining the necessary skills and expanding her ability to understand and treat mental health issues. Tanishkka Yadav

Tanishkka Yadav

Tanishkka is an ACA Level 4 Counsellor and Provisional Psychologist at The Melbourne Psychiatry Centre. She has seven years of experience in the mental health field and has worked with diverse client groups across the lifespan, both in Australia and internationally.

Tanishkka supports clients experiencing a range of concerns, including anxiety, excessive worry, depression, relationship difficulties, major life transitions, career and workplace stress, ADHD, family conflict, and challenges relating to identity, self-discovery, and emotional wellbeing. She also has an interest in supporting people navigating different life stages, including older adults, new and expecting parents, and individuals seeking to better understand their behavioural and emotional patterns.

Her therapeutic approach is integrative, collaborative, and client-centred. Tanishkka draws from evidence-based therapies including Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Schema Therapy, Dialectical Behaviour Therapy, Motivational Interviewing, and Logotherapy. She aims to create a safe and supportive space where clients feel heard, can build insight, develop practical coping strategies, and work toward meaningful personal change.

Aparana is Co-founder and Practice Manager of the Melbourne Psychiatry Centre and a member of AAPM. She holds an MBA from Heriot Watt University (UK) and has experience across marketing, banking and finance, bringing commercial rigour to healthcare operations.

At MPC she leads operations, business development and compliance, overseeing financial management, strategic planning, policy development and quality improvement.

Aparana drives growth through referral relationships, service development and partnerships, and implements systems that improve efficiency, access and the patient journey.

She is committed to patient centred service delivery and sustainable practice growth, balancing operational excellence with values of respect, care and professionalism.

We offer Psychiatry and Psychology solutions serving bayside and surrounding areas

At the Melbourne Psychiatry Centre in Brighton, we offer a seamless access to expert care to improve outcomes that you desire. We offer psychiatry solutions at this stage and aim to incorporate allied health and psychology care in the near future. We serve the bayside and surrounding areas.

At MPC, you can expect a compassionate approach from the time a referral is received from your GP. Our staff will assist you to book in for your initial appointment and will be there to support your journey of personal recovery.

We understand that it can be difficult to ask for help when your mental health is not in good shape. We will welcome you and maintain a kind approach throughout your care. We understand the complexity around mental health diagnosis, treatment and prevention. We will share this with you on an individual basis so that you know what works for you.
