Psychosis is a mental health condition that affects various parts of brain function. People with psychosis experience a disturbance in their thoughts and/or perception of what is real and what is not. This can include hallucinations, hearing / seeing / feeling things that are not there and/or delusions, having firm beliefs that may not be there.
Psychotic symptoms can be short-lasting but if they persist for a long period of time, the condition is called Schizophrenia.
Prompt diagnosis, effective treatment and ongoing support can help people lead fully functioning lives despite this condition.
